Digital Works, Meet Physical Form

Digital Works, Meet Physical Form

Travis Doggett stands out from your typical CarveWright owner. Most have backgrounds in wood carving, woodcrafting, and so on, but not Travis. His background interests are based on graphic design and digital sculpture.

Travis attended the Savannah College of Art & Design in Georgia, but he now resides in a beautiful Massachusetts town with his wife Kelli, a comic book artist. Travis works for Iron Lore Entertainment, where he utilizes his skills in the digital world of the video gaming industry. For several years, he has had a personal interest in physical sculptures, such as bronze-casting, clay, and plaster, but he wasn’t satisfied. He wanted to combine the two interests. He was seeking something where he could use software to create 3-D designs, and then produce them into a physical form. That’s when he met CarveWright.

“The Carvewright seems to be an excellent creative tool for me to pursue my goals of creating physical art…”

“This is becoming a very exciting time for artists such as me…”

First, through a co-worker and friend, Travis was introduced to the CarveWright name. A week later, he came across it again while searching the internet. The CarveWright system made it possible for Travis to break down the barriers between his digital world and the physical format that he wanted his ideas to become. He found he was not only able to use the software to make his own creations come to life, but he could also utilize existing patterns and those that are online from the Pattern Depot. Since purchasing his CarveWright, Travis has spent many hours designing and carving out his visions.

"The process of CNC sculpting and rapid prototyping is not terrifically new, but it does require a ridiculous amount of money and/or technical know-how," said Travis. "The CarveWright seems to be an excellent creative tool for me to pursue my goals of creating physical art form from digital works, and has done a spectacular job."

Travis goes on to say that this is becoming a very exciting time for artists such as himself, because now there is an affordable, realistic CNC machine that will allow them to put their creative thoughts into physical forms.
